It’s time to share my obsession with making things from recycled fabric scraps. I’ve just added two new options for my in-your-home curiosity craft parties: fun and funky boho beads and hand-sewn fabric collages.
What’s a curiosity party? It’s a great way to spend a few hours with your friends, exploring your creative side in a low-pressure activity. I bring all the supplies, the ideas, and the fun. You supply a workspace for you and your friends (the kitchen table is perfect!) plus enough chairs for everyone, and if you’re feeling fancy, a snack tray or a few bowls of chips. That’s it! Great for birthdays and other parties, girls’ night out, or just because it’s fun to play with your friends.
There’s something magical about getting together with your friends and enjoying a creative activity together. And when you’re done, you’ve tried something new and made a thing! It’s a great way to test out a new hobby without having to invest in supplies or spend hours watching youtube tutorials first. Maybe you love it and want to learn more, or maybe you learn it’s not for you — but at least you’re not saddled with hundred of dollars in craft supplies that will never be used to find out! And you’ve reconnected with your friends over a shared activity – something we all need more of in our busy lives.
Have you ever been curious about slow stitching? It’s a wonderful, meditative approach to stitching with no intimidating sewing machine parts, no embroidery hoops and no rules. If you can hold a needle, I can show you the rest. Choose colourful fabric scraps to make a collage, or just use stitches to draw your design with floss or thread. If you’re feeling fancy, add buttons or beads! Follow a template or make up your own design – it’s all up to you and your willingness to explore.
If slow stitching and fabric collages aren’t your thing, how about these fun and funky boho beads? We start by rolling a scrap of fabric into a bead and then string it with some colourful wood or glass beads. Then we get really fancy, wrapping fine gauge wire strung with tiny glass beads around the works, adding playful charms for a little extra sparkle. These make great danglers for a backpack or purse, or you could add a bit of ribbon to make them into bookmarks. If you like colourful boho style, you’ll love these easy crafts.
You can see more details about how these are made in my tutorial on how to create boho fabric scrap beads.
The $50 cost per person includes all supplies. Everything you need, including beads, wire, fabric and tools, plus help on how to put it all together, will be provided for you when you book a curiosity in-home party.
