I love playing with my tarot cards, and I use them just about every day. I also love sharing my love of tarot with other folks. Doing a tarot reading for someone is a surprisingly intimate act, like a deep conversation about life with the person you’ve never met before sitting next to you on the train. I love that fleeting connection, and that insight behind the curtain into someone else’s life.
Tarot cards are based on archetypes, and the pictures, numbers and symbols all work together with your imagination as a sort of language to tell stories. Some tarot readers practice divination and predict the future. That’s not my style nor my comfort zone.
For me, tarot works best like a conversation with a friend who points out your blind spots, or when it amplifies your gut’s inner wisdom so you see connections you hadn’t noticed before. Having said that, I have to admit that despite a mostly woo-free secular approach to tarot, there are times when the insight the tarot cards has offered has blown my socks off. There are things we just can’t explain, and that might be what I love the most about reading tarot.
