In my tarot card reading business (based in Ottawa, Ontario) I offer two options: a tarot reading event for more than 10 people and a tarot reading party for 10 people or less. And I also offer workshops on how to read tarot, but that’s not what I’m talking about today. I made the distinction between tarot parties and tarot events mostly because of the number of readings I can do in an hour.
Tarot card reading party for 10 people or fewer
With a tarot party (10 people or less), everyone gets a 6-card reading. The tarot reading for each person is a little more in-depth, and allows for more interaction. And of course, for that reason, they take longer. For a tarot party, you can expect each reading to last 15 – 20 minutes.
When I first started doing this sort of tarot party, we did the readings one-on-one, privately away from the main group. Lately though, I’ve found it is really fun for a group that knows each other very well and doesn’t mind sharing a bit of intimacy (think lifetime friends instead of book club), it’s insightful to do the readings out in the open. Many times, the person for whom I’ll be doing the reading will have a slightly puzzled look at a particular nuance of a reading while their friends are incredulous with recognition: “That is SO you!” This only works if everyone in the group is comfortable being open, though.

For the tarot card reading party, with less than 10 people, I charge by the person. The fee is $200 for up to 5 people, and $35 per person beyond the first five.
Tarot card reading event for 10 people or more
For a tarot event (10 or more people), everyone gets a 3-card reading. The readings move more quickly so we can fit more in, but they are still insightful and entertaining, and will give every participant something to think about. Each reading takes 5-10 minutes, and I move a little quicker for very large events but take a bit more time for medium-sized events, so that everyone who wants one gets a reading.
For this sort of tarot event, it’s fun to do a joint reading for couples. It gives two people a tarot card reading in the space of one, and is a bit of a change from individual readings. I pull one card for what person A brings to the relationship, one card for what person B brings to the relationship, and one card that is insight or “advice from the universe” for the couple.
A tarot card reading event for 10+ people can be a large home party, a party out at a location, a bachelorette or stag and doe, client appreciation event, birthday party, corporate event, street festival, fundraiser – they all get the same basic 3 card reading, tailored to the style of the event.
The fee for a tarot reading event is $100 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. We don’t have to agree on a number of hours ahead of time, unless you have a fixed budget and want a hard time finish. Usually, I am happy to read as long as there are folks wanting readings, and I charge for each 30 minute increment beyond the first 2 hours.

For extra-large events, I can also circulate in the crowd doing one-card tarot pulls instead of having a fixed tarot reading spot. The one-card tarot reading is a fun, quick hit of advice: what does the universe want you to know? I love doing these types of events because I love introducing my playful but somewhat practical style of tarot reading to people who might not ordinarily sit down for a reading.
