So the making a loom out of a styrofoam deli meat tray idea worked out pretty good. The idea fell apart a little bit when I tried to tie the warp to the rock. I mean, it worked, it’s just maybe a bit of a weird idea to weave a blankie for your rock. Or maybe it’s a sweater? 😂 Anyway, learned some stuff about weaving, and amused myself for a couple of hours. And now my rock is warm. I guess I did what I set out to do? 😂

That moment when your brain reaches a critical mas

That moment when your brain reaches a critical mass of inputs and techniques and inspiration and cranks out an idea. ‘Hey, what if we took the styrofoam tray from the lunch meat and turned that into a loom? And we use the chunky yarn to weave a rock wrap? And add some roving and locks for texture? Could that work?’

We’re about to find out!

This simple little wrap on a garden rock was nice

This simple little wrap on a garden rock was nice enough, but just meh. I put it aside for a bit and then noticed the end of the last wrap had worked itself loose. I happened to have a charm nearby (because random craft supplies on every flat surface) and as soon as I added the key I knew that’s what this wrap had wanted.

I started making these double-knit squares in 2019

I started making these double-knit squares in 2019. I had barely picked up knitting again after learning the basics as a child and so had no idea that double knitting and colour work were too advanced for me. There are SO many mistakes baked in. 😂

I followed some #lattesandllamas geek-a-long pattens, but then started drafting my own designs. By the summer of 2024 I knew I was never going to get to enough DK squares so I crocheted a dozen giant granny squares to fill in the blanks.

I’m in the midst of joining them up and it’s making me laugh how wonky and imperfect the whole thing is. Some of the stitches are so tight I can barely work the crochet hook into them. There are uneven seams. The number of stitches don’t match. I don’t care. I’m just plowing on with whatever half-arsed solution gets me to a blanket.

Are you a person who is bothered by mistakes in your work? Clearly, I am not. 😂 But there is a loveable amount of learning that went into this monstrosity.

All my friends are writing posts about all the boo

All my friends are writing posts about all the books they read in 2024. I’m happier counting all the crafts I made - one for each month. Fabric scraps gave way to a new obsession with rocks about mid-year. 😂 I like how I’ve managed to pull things I learned from previous crafts into the newer ones.

I’ve been thinking about making Swiftie-style br

I’ve been thinking about making Swiftie-style bracelets ever since I picked one up for myself at the Chelsea Market in NYC that says ‘Badass’. I already have buckets of beads from various upcycling and second hand purchases, so I just needed the elastic cord. They’re fun! And then I made a bookmark, because the beads were already all over the table. 😂
